New corvette Suqian joins PLA Navy South China Sea Fleet













A new member of China's type 056 corvette family Suqian has joined the South China Sea Fleet of the PLA Navy.A commissioning ceremony for the new corvette was held on July 20 at a naval port in Sanya of south China's Hainan Province.The type 056 corvette is designed for offshore defense and capable of performing multiple missions including sea patrol, escorting fishing boats, conducting independently or coordinating anti-submarine or surface combat.

The first type 056 corvette Bengbu (hull number 582) was launched on May 23, 2012 in Shanghai and commissioned to the East China Sea Fleet on February 25, 2013. The Suqian is the 22nd of this type serving in the PLA Navy.
