US 'smart weapons' to aid AFP efforts vs. terrorists
MANILA – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Monday said the "smart munitions" given to them by the United States would be of great help to their ongoing efforts to eliminate the terrorist menace in the country."These smart munitions with such capability and precision will aid immensely the AFP in ridding the country of terrorist menaces," AFP spokesperson Marine Major Gen. Edgard Arevalo said in a statement.
While the AFP has been successful in using ordinary munitions in counter-terrorism operations using legacy aircraft, including in Marawi City, Arevalo said the arrival of these modern weapons will greatly boost efforts to defeat the threat of terrorism."We may have been successful in counter-terrorism operations—most notably in Marawi —with ordinary munitions fitted in our legacy aircraft. But with the advent of these missiles and munitions, we are certain that they will greatly boost our campaigns and contribute to the global drive to fight and defeat terrorists," Arevalo said.
He added that AFP chief-of-staff, Gen. Gilbert Gapay, has also expressed his thanks to the US and Philippines defense departments for brokering and sealing this deal.In a ceremony on Monday, the Department of Foreign Affairs received from US National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien a precision-guided munition package to the Philippines worth US$18 million (around PHP868 million). Some of the weapons handed over include 100 "tube-launched optically tracked, wire-guided" TOW-2A missiles, 12 improved target acquisition systems (ITAS), and 24 Mark-82 bombs and associated guidance kits to convert these into smart bombs.

Hanwha Selects Kongsberg for Australia's ‘Huntsman' Project
Hanwha Defense Australia (HDA) has announced a partnership with Kongsberg Defence Australia (KDA) in support of its bid to supply the Australian Army with K9 155 mm self-propelled howitzers (SPHs) and 15 K10 armoured ammunition resupply vehicles (AARVs).
HDA said on 13 November that KDA will be responsible for integrating command, control, communications, and computing (C4) capability into the two platforms – to be known in Australia as the ‘Huntsman’ family of vehicles – which are expected to be acquired through the Protected Mobile Fires programme under Project Land 8116 Phase 1.In early September HDA, which is the local subsidiary of South Korea’s Hanwha Defense, was named by the Australian government as preferred supplier in the programme. HDA was issued with a request for tender (RFT) later that month.
HDA said its selection of Kongsberg to supply C4 integration was a “natural choice”, given that the Norwegian-headquartered company provides the digital architecture and fire-control system for Hanwha Defense’s K9 and K10 platforms.Hanwha Defense and Kongsberg have previously partnered on projects to supply K9 and K10 platforms to Norway and K9 SPHs to Finland and Estonia.

Rheinmetall has unveiled the first of three Lynx KF41 Infantry Fighting Vehicles designed, developed and manufactured for the Commonwealth of Australia’s $AUD18.1 billion (11.1 MrdEUR) Land 400 Phase 3 program.
Lynx is a next generation tracked, digitised and highly protected Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) built to meet the stringent military requirements of Land 400 Phase 3. Rheinmetall is delivering each of the Lynx vehicles to compete in the test and evaluation trials as part of the Risk Mitigation Activity (RMA) to be conducted around Australia over a 12 month timeframe from November 2020. If successful, the Lynx fleet will be manufactured in Queensland at Rheinmetall’s new Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence (MILVEHCOE) at Redbank south-west of Brisbane.
The RMA trials will incorporate a range of tests including lethality, mobility and protection. The vehicle unveiled will be the focus of blast testing at a dedicated Commonwealth facility in coming months.Lynx was unveiled at a closed ceremony with selected Australian industry partners at the MILVEHCOE. Each of the Lynx vehicles delivered into the RMA trials will incorporate a significant level of Australian industry content and local partners to the Rheinmetall offer for Land 400 Phase 3 will be announced in coming weeks.“Rheinmetall looks forward to demonstrating the capability of this next generation infantry fighting vehicle,” said Rheinmetall Defence Australia Managing Director Gary Stewart. “We believe Lynx is the best vehicle in its class and sets a new standard in protection and the lethality needed to survive and defeat any adversary.
“Lynx has been developed so it is positioned at an ideal level of maturity when Australia needs it to enter service - and it will have a growth path to extend these capabilities through its 40-year life.”Lynx has been selected by the Hungarian Armed Forces for the delivery of more than 200 vehicles in the first launch order for the vehicle globally. Rheinmetall Defence Australia will export turrets to the value of $150 million manufactured by Australians – and will soon announce further export orders into the Hungarian program including orders for Australian SMEs.Rheinmetall is delivering 211 8x8 Boxer Combat Reconnaissance Vehicles (CRV) to the Australian Army after the vehicle was selected by the Commonwealth after 12 months of RMA trials by Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel in 2016-2017.
