Pakistan Army Core Commanders’ huddle reviews security situation

Army chief General Raheel Sharif on Wednesday expressed his ‘complete satisfaction’ on the progress so far made in the ongoing military offensive in North Waziristan Agency. He made these remarks while chairing a meeting of corps commanders held at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement that the meeting discussed matters of professional interests. “A detailed briefing was given to the participants on internal and external security situation of the country,” it added.

Reviewing Operation Zarb-e-Azb, the army chief expressed his complete satisfaction on the progress of the operation and lauded the successes made so far. “The forum paid rich tributes to all participating officers and men and sacrifices made during the ongoing operation,” the military’s media wing said.The 175th corps commanders’ huddle was also a farewell meeting for at least five three-star generals, who are set to retire within next few weeks.

The major reshuffle is set to begin on Thursday when Corps Commander Peshawar Lt-Gen Khalid Rabbani would doff his uniform. He will be replaced by Lt-Gen Hidayatur Rehman, who would now oversee the North Waziristan offensive.

Similarly, Corps Commander Mangla Lt-Gen Tariq Khan would retire on October 7, Corps Commander Gujranwala Lt-Gen Salim Nawaz on Oct 20, Corps Commander Karachi Lt-Gen Sajjad Ghani on October 25 and Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt-Gen Zaheerul Islam would step down on November 7.
