India alarmed over Chinese submarine at Sri Lanka port

India has taken seriously the reports that Sri Lanka has permitted another Chinese attack submarine to dock at a Sri Lankan port. The presence of Chinese submarines in the Indian ocean has deeply troubled the Indian government and India plans to convey a strong displeasure to Sri Lankan authorities.

The recent plan of submarine port call comes in complete disregard to India's message to Sri Lankan defense secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa earlier this month. In a recent report, Wall Street Journal described the Chinese submarine fleet (taskforce) as Beijing's most significant military challenge in the region. And for them to surface at Lankan ports brings alive some of New Delhi's worst fears of China's expanding presence in India's neighborhood.
