Iran unveils indigenized hovercrafts

On Monday Iran unveiled two indigenized hovercrafts in its territorial waters in the Caspian Sea, the Fars news agency reported.

The two hovercrafts were unveiled in a ceremony to mark the 36th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution at the naval base of Bandar Anzali in the northern province of Gilan.

Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a U.S. weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, vessels and fighter planes.

Iranian officials have always stressed that the country’s military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any country.
