Vietnam People’s Navy marks 60th founding anniversary with parade at military port






The Vietnam People’s Navy on Saturday held a ceremony, accompanied by a military parade, at the Cam Ranh military port in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa to commemorate its 60th anniversary.The event was joined by Truong Tan Sang, Politburo member and State President; Nguyen Thien Nhan, Politburo member and chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Phung Quang Thanh, Politburo member and Defense Minister; Tran Dai Quang, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security; and many other senior leaders, both current and former, of Vietnam.

Speaking at the celebration, State President Truong Tan Sang emphasized that the navy needs to thoroughly understand and follow the viewpoints of the State and the Communist Party of Vietnam on national defense to protect the country’s sovereignty over seas and islands and settle disputes in the East Vietnam Sea, according to government website chinhphu.vn.

The president also requested that the Vietnam People's Navy highly promote self-reliance and build a revolutionary, elite and modern force.He also asked the naval forces to maintain and use existing and new weaponry and technical equipment more effectively.

The state president required the navy to actively make new achievements in science-technology to boost research and development work for more innovations and inventions.
The navy should also enhance the quality of training, be ready to maneuver, and improve the management and protection of maritime sovereignty over the islands of the country, President Sang said.

On this occasion, on behalf of the Party and State, President Sang awarded the Order of the Hero of People's Armed Forces for the second time to the navy.
