China is conducting test flights of four J-20 fight-generation stealth fighter jets simultaneously in the southwestern city of Chengdu, reports the Kanwa Defense Review, a Chinese-language military magazine based in Canada.
The People's Liberation Army is said to be testing the four prototypes at the same time to speed up the test flight phase of the jet's development so that it can be completed before the end of next year and move into small-scale experimental production between 2017 and 2018.
The aircraft, developed by the Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group, is also said to have undergone various changes, including alterations to the tail and main wing, and has also been equipped with the latest photovoltaic targeting system with an active phased array radar to enhance ground attack capabilities.
According to the report, the PLA Air Force may begin to introduce the J-20 to its fleets between 2017 and 2018, beginning with the PLA's test flight center in Cangzhou, a prefecture-level city in northern China's Hebei province.
