Putin gave green light to set up Russian air base in Belarus




Russia’s president has also order the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Defence Ministry to open the necessary talks with Minsk.

It is said in the report of the press-service of the Kremlin.

“To accept the proposal of the government of the Russian Federation to sign the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus concerning the Russian air base on the territory of the Republic of Belarus,” the order of Vladimir Putin reads.

We remind that in 2014 it became known that Russian fighters Su-27 are to be placed in the airport near Babrujsk. Su-27 have already appeared on the air base in Baranavichy. In 2013 it was informed that the Russian aviation is to be also used by the airport near Lida (Hrodna region).

The Belarusian opposition on numerous occasions spoke against deploying an Russian air base in the country.
