Dutch fort Bourtange was built during the 80 Years' War (1568–1648) when William I of Orange wanted to control the road between Germany and the city of Groningen, which was controlled by the Spanish. Today it's a normal village with 450 inhabitants. pic.twitter.com/eSHFubs37e
