Additional Philippine Navy Combat Ship Seen
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Tuesday said that the Philippine government hopes to finish by December this year its negotiations with the South Korean government to start the building of two more Pohang-class corvettes worth P25 billion which will added to the Philippine Navy’s fleet.
Lorenzana noted that once the contract has been signed, the building of the corvettes could start by January 2020.
“We are still working on the financing. I want the negotiations to be finish this December so the contract can be signed already so that we can start making or building the corvettes by January,” said Lorenzana.
“We are still working on the financing because we don’t have the money to pay for it immediately. They can give us generous financing and we could pay them in three to five years later on. Maybe they will make our corvettes,” he added.
The Defense chief noted that just like the two frigates set to be acquired by the country from South Korea next year, Hyundai Heavy Industries Col., Ltd. will also be the one to build it if the plan pushes through.
Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. is the world’s largest shipbuilding company. Its headquarters are in Ulsan, South Korea. HHI was founded in 1972 by Chung Ju-yung as a division of the Hyundai Group, and in 1974, completed building its first ships.
Lorenzana said once the country acquires the two corvettes, the ships will be deployed in the south.
The Philippine Navy recently acquired from South Korea BRP Conrado Yap (PS-39) which arrived in the country on 18 August. Lorenzana said that the Philippines is also set to acquire two frigates from South Korea next year.
He said BRP Rizal is set to arrive in the country by April of May of 2020 while BRP Luna is expected to be delivered by December next year.

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) released the Special Allotment Release Order (SARO) for the transfer of AH-1S Cobra Attack helicopters donated by the Kingdom of Jordan on June 3.
The SARO has an amount of PHP 158,204,428.00 “to cover the requirements for the transfer and acceptance of two (2) units AH-1S Cobra Attack Helicopters from the Kingdom of Jordan under the Revised AFP Modernization Program.”

KAI is also developing a 4.5 generation half stealth fighter jet KAI KF-X, a joint South Korean and Indonesian effort. The programme is spearheaded by South Korea, which holds 80 per cent of the shares. Indonesia joined in 2010 and has the remaining 20 per cent shares in the project.

More T72B1MS Tank for Laos Arrived
On the international military sites, a picture of a modern T-72B1MS main battle tank has just been brought to Tien Sa port in Vietnam.
It is known that these are the main battle tanks (MBT) T-72B1MS "White Eagles" provided by Russia to the Lao People's Army, they are taken to Tien Sa port to carry out transit procedures through Vietnam because Laos does not have a seaport.
The contract for the supply of T-72B1MS tanks signed between Russia and Laos has a total volume of about 30 units, the size of a battalion, the Russian side usually hand over 10 units at a time, before that, similar shipments to Tien Sa port.
After arriving at Vietnam ports, these MBTs will be transported to Laos via roads by specialized trucks, with the latest shipment, it is likely that Laos has received a sufficient number of tanks under a commercial contract, marking a new step in the armed forces.
The "White Eagle" T-72B1MS is an upgraded version of Russian-made T-72Bs manufactured from the Soviet Union, the "White Eagle" is a quick fire upgrade package that helps tanks meet better than the requirements of modern warfare.
Basically, the "White Eagle" tank has a poor T-90S defense system when it is not equipped with the new Kontakt 5 explosive reactor but still has to use Kontakt-1 and is not equipped with Shtora-1 soft defense system, but firepower is better.
The "White Eagle" Tank is equipped with a multi-channel optical image viewfinder system for the gunner and head of Sosna-U, manufactured by Belarus company Peleng, customers can choose a few more electronic devices western origin.
In addition, the car is also equipped with a ballistic computer and automatic target tracking system, integrated 12.7 mm remote control turret with cruise camera. Its electronic system and fire control are significantly superior when placed next to the T-90S.
According to military experts, this is because the chassis is almost unused and integrated with the new generation electronic weapons that the T-72B "White Eagle" is capable of facing any battle the most advanced far right now.
With an estimated price of only US $ 1.5-2 million per vehicle, the T-72B1MS proved to be a wise choice for the Lao Army in the context of their defense budget.
