Pakistan inducts Al Khalid-I tank

Speaking on the occasion, Gen Bajwa said Pakistan, if provoked by the adversary — a reference to India — would respond with full force.

“Our defence preparation and operational readiness is to ensure peace within and peace without. However, if provoked we shall respond and respond with all our might,” the army chief declared.

Gen Bajwa emphasised the need for bolstering defence and operational preparedness and said there was a dire need of enhancing indigenous defence production in evolving security environment.

Al Khalid-I has been developed in collaboration with China and Ukraine.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the tank, during the ceremony, exhibited some of its “outstanding capabilities”, including mobility, speed, bi-axis gun stabilisation of the control system and use of smoke screen to mask movement.

According to information about the tank on HIT’s website, it is equipped with enhanced protection against smart ammunition and other forms of top attacks. The tank has improved Muzzle Reference System, Solid State Auto Loader, Improved Radiation Detector and independent and effective command and control system for deeper and long-distance operations.

The website further states that the tank is capable of sustainable operations in nuclear environment because of it life support system. It says the tank has been developed for “higher strategic and tactical mobility”. It is also said to be capable of fighting in built up areas or the urban warfare.

The ISPR said Al Khalid-I will be handed over to formations which have critical and decisive role during wars.

HIT Chairman Major General Syed Aamer Raza highlighted the ongoing projects, achievements of his organisation and its contribution to defence production in pursuit of self-reliance.

Chinese fake military researcher spy hiding out in China’s San Francisco consulate is arrested

She says she did not understand the meaning of the military insignia on various uniforms

Chinese researcher accused of hiding her military affiliations and believed to have been sheltering for weeks in the Chinese consulate in San Francisco has been arrested by US authorities, officials announced on Friday.

According to court documents, Tang entered the US last December on an educational exchange visa to conduct cancer treatment research at the University of California, Davis, but did not disclose apparent military ties in her visa application.

South China Morning Post reports she denied to FBI agents that she had served in the military, and said she did not understand the meaning of the military insignia on various uniforms she was pictured wearing in photographs discovered in authorities’ investigations. Chinese military spies working as researchers in American and Western universities to steal technology and IP secrets

Chinese military copies the technology after theft and sells cheap products on the market

A Chinese researcher accused of concealing her ties to the Chinese military on a visa application she submitted so she could work in the US was booked on Friday into a Northern California jail and was expected to appear in federal court on Monday.

Sacramento County jail records show Juan Tang, 37, was being held on behalf of federal authorities after she was arrested by the US Marshals Service. It was unclear if she had an attorney who could comment on her behalf.

The Justice Department on Thursday announced charges against Tang and three other scientists living in the US, saying they lied about their status as members of China’s Peoples Liberation Army. All were charged with visa fraud.

Tang was the last of the four to be arrested, after the justice department accused the Chinese consulate in San Francisco of harbouring a known fugitive. The consulate did not immediately respond to email and Facebook messages seeking comment and it was not possible to leave a telephone message.

The Justice Department said Tang lied about her military ties in a visa application last October as she made plans to work at the University of California, Davis and again during an FBI interview months later. Agents found photos of Tang dressed in military uniform and reviewed articles in China identifying her military affiliation.

UC Davis said Tang left her job as a visiting researcher in the Department of Radiation Oncology in June. Her work was funded by a study-based exchange program affiliated with China’s Ministry of Education, the university said in a statement.

Indonesia Interested in Buying Austrian Eurofighter

Indonesia wants to buy the Austrian Eurofighter. Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto offers his counterpart Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP) a letter to buy all 15 interceptors, reports "Die Presse" in its Sunday edition.

The defense department confirmed receipt of the letter but did not want to comment further on the letter.

"Please allow me to contact you directly on a very important matter for the Republic of Indonesia," the minister wrote in English. A German consultant informed Prabowo that Austria bought the Eurofighter in 2002. "In order to modernize the Indonesian Air Force, I would like to enter into official negotiations with you to buy all 15 Eurofighters for the Republic of Indonesia," quotes "Die Presse" from the letter, dated July 10 and in the Ministry at the end of last week has arrived.

Prabowo apparently knows the clashes over the Eurofighter in Austria and the efforts to get rid of these planes: "I am aware of the sensitivity of the matter," writes the Indonesian minister. He knows the circumstances of the Eurofighter purchase in Austria and its effects to the present day. "Nevertheless, I am sure that my offer offers opportunities for both sides," he believes.
