An old Pakistan Army aircraft — Mushaq — crashed on Monday near Gujarat during a routine training mission, according to the ISPR.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Major Umer, an instructor pilot, and Lieutenant Faizan, a student pilot, were killed during the crash.

"Major Umer, a resident of Gujarat, and Lieutenant Fiazan, a resident of Kalar Kahar, Chakwal, embraced shahadat," the ISPR statement said.

Major Umer is survived by a wife, the statement added.

On March 23, a Pakistan Airforce F-16 aircraft crashed near Shakarparian in Islamabad during rehearsals for the Pakistan Day Parade. Wing Commander Nauman Akram was martyred in the crash.

Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa had paid tribute to the martyr and said: "Laying one’s life is the ultimate sacrifice one can make for defence of the motherland. May his soul rest in peace. My thoughts and sincere prayers for the bereaved family.”

Pakistan Air Force (PAF) jet crashes in Jhang, pilot ejects safely

A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Mirage-5 jet crashed in Athara Hazari area situated in Punjab's Jhang district on Monday. The pilot of the aircraft managed to survive the crash.

The fighter jet was on a routine training mission when it met with the crash, according to a spokesperson of the PAF Air Commodore Tariq, who added that the aircraft's pilot remained safe in the incident as he had executed a safe ejection.

"No loss of civilian life and property has been reported on ground," the spokesman told Dawn, adding that a board of inquiry has been ordered by the Air Headquarters in Islamabad to determine the cause of accident.

Squadron Leader killed as PAF Mirage crashes

Aircraft had taken off from Masroor air base on a routine training mission.

A Mirage training jet of the PAF crashed in Gadap area on the outskirts of Karachi on Friday while it was on a training flight, officials said.

A spokesman of Pakistan Air Force (PAF), later in a statement confirmed the incident saying Squadron Leader Tanveer Ahmed has died in the crash and that Air Force helicopters had reached the site of the crash for rescue operations.The spokesman said the crashed aircraft was flying under night operational training, adding that the air headquarters has directed to launch an investigation into the incident.

Financial irregularities of Rs 50 billion detected in Pakistan Air Force(PAF) audit

The Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) has detected serious financial irregularities exceeding Rs 30 billion, including embezzlements, violation of rules, unauthorised occupation of public land and related malpractices, in the annual accounts of Pakistan Air Force (PAF).In its audit report for the financial year 2013-14 on the PAF accounts, the AGP has found that unauthorised expenditure exceeding Rs 25 billion has been incurred by the PAF authorities in terms of awarding an illegal consultancy contract to a private firm to execute a highly classified project. Moreover, the AGP has highlighted six instances related to unauthorised or illegal occupation of public land by the PAF that caused the national exchequer a loss of Rs 355 million in the last financial year.

According to the audit report, the PAF awarded contract number 08/2008 in an ‘unauthorised, illegal and incompetent’ manner, valued at Rs 429.234 million, to Kashif Aslam & Associates Private Limited for the development of PAF Base Shahbaz in Jacobabad, instead of awarding this contract to Military Engineering Services (MES), that is the competent authority to carry out such sensitive contracts in the defence sector. The project’s initial cost was Rs 7 billion but escalated to a total cost of Rs 25 billion under highly questionable circumstances amid alleged financial foul play committed by the PAF officials in collusion with the consultant.

The audit reveals that the award of the contract was not only illegal, it was a serious breach of the security protocol as well, since awarding a highly sensitive contract in defence sector to a private firm was in stark violation of rules. “As per the rules, only MES is responsible for such sophisticated and secret construction works of defence services but PAF assumed unlawfully the mandate of MES for this project,” the audit report observed. Initially, the audit report notes, Project Shahbaz was approved by the prime minister at a cost of Rs 7 billion, to be completed in two years by January 2010. But the project was extended for two more years till December 2011. Now the project’s cost has been raised to Rs 25.489 billion and is scheduled to be completed in 2014-15. The AGP recommends “immediate termination of existing consultancy contract, fix responsibility of such unlawful award of contract, recover full amount paid to the contractor and deposit the same into government treasury.” It also recommends “immediate stoppage of such unlawful practices for Project Shahbaz as well as for other upcoming similar projects of the armed forces for optimum use of precious government assets and human resources to ensure transparency, economy, efficiency and secrecy.”

The audit report mentions several instances that the financial irregularities in the PAF’s accounts were repeatedly brought to the notice of Air Headquarters (AHQ) in Islamabad as well as to the officials concerned but the PAF management failed to offer a satisfactory reply in this regard.
In one such instance, the national exchequer faced an enormous loss of Rs 414 million due to the unauthorised air movement of non-duty passengers in C-130 aircraft at PAF Faisal Base Karachi. The movement mostly involved the families and near and dear ones of PAF officers.“The loss was reported to the base commander, PAF Faisal Base Karachi, to which it was replied that the movement of non-duty passengers is authorised to give incentive to defence personnel on fill-up basis. Reply furnished by PAF is misleading and not tenable — containing no provision for free of cost movement of non-duty passengers,” the audit report observes.

Moreover, Rs 20 million were lost due to non-deposit of rent into government treasury recovered from officers who stayed at officers’ residential premises at PAF Noor Khan Base Chaklala. The residential facility is known as Visiting Officers Quarters (VAQ) and is run by the AHQ, Islamabad.

Nowadays Pakistan Air Force does not publish the type of aircraft that crashed to avoid tipping off the neighbors.

Pakistan Air Force (PAF) fighter aircraft crashed near Kuchlak, outskirt of Quetta, on Wednesday morning due to a technical fault. The pilot sustained minor injuries.

“The fighter aircraft on operational training mission crashed after it developed a fault. The pilot planned a successful ejection and was safely airlifted,” Air Commander Tariq Mehmood, spokesperson Pakistan Air Force told the media. The Air Headquarter has ordered an inquiry into the incident to determine the exact cause of the crash.

“The aircraft crashed in a vacant area and there was no loss of life and property in the area,” he said.

OPERATIONAL AIR BASE: Chief of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt on Saturday visited a PAF Base for witnessing the last phase of the Joint International Air Exercise “Shaheen-III” at an Operational Air Base of the PAF.The contingent of the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF), comprises combat pilots, air defence controllers and technical ground crew. After witnessing the air exercise, the Air Chief expressed his satisfaction on the professional acumen of the participating combat pilots and technicians of the air exercise.

While talking to the Joint Air Exercise participants, he said, the air exercises between the two professional air forces would not only cement the already existing friendly bonds but would also give an opportunity to learn from each other’s combat experiences. The “Shaheen-III”, which is being conducted in near real scenario will provide an opportunity to combat crew of both the air forces to acquaint themselves with the latest employment concepts and practices.The PLAAF’s contingent is comprised of J-10 and J-7 combat aircraft where as PAF JF-17 Thunder, Mirage and F7 PG combat aircraft are participating in this multi-dimensional joint air exercise. The PAF emphasizes the combat training of its air and ground crew and regularly undertakes air exercises with allied air forces.

The “Shaheen-III”, which is the third in the series of joint air exercises with the PLAAF, is conducted annually on alternate basis in both the countries. It is pertinent to mention that “Shaheen-II” was conducted in China last year.The PAF has been regularly participating in a number of international air exercises with some of the best air forces of the world, including the United States Air Force, Italian Air Force, Turkish Air Force, Royal Jordanian Air Force, Royal Saudi Air Force and air forces of other allied countries.
