The image, published by the Syrian Revolution Coordinators Union, appears to show two people in the sky near Kanaker, a Syrian town near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
The Israeli military said Tuesday morning that it had shot down a Syrian aircraft that “infiltrated into Israeli airspace,” and that a Patriot air-defense missile had been used to intercept “the aircraft in mid-flight.”
Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, a spokesman for the Israeli military, said the aircraft was a Russian-made Sukhoi fighter jet, with at “at least one or two pilots or navigators aboard.” He said the plane came into Israeli airspace at about 9:15 a.m. but was not sure how long it was there for, or how deep it penetrated.
