Earlier on June 10 it was reported that smoke was observed coming from the fighter’s starboard engine air intake during landing, and a fire broke out shortly afterwards at Zhukovsky air base near Moscow.

India has currently paid over quarter of a billion dollars for the preliminary design but the Sukhoi Corporation is currently not giving any explanation as to why a prototype aircraft caught fire during a technology demonstration.Russia has built six prototypes of PAK-FA and, after repeated requests from India, it agreed to hold a demonstration flight earlier this year for technical evaluation. The flight ended in a fire that embarrassed the Russians.
