HAL Light Combat Helicopter TD3 along with a HAL Dhruv

The Light Combat Helicopter's third trial aircraft, LCH TD-3, made its first flight on Wednesday, marking a new milestone in the development of an indigenous attack helicopter that can fight in the country's treacherous and mountainous fronts of the North and East.

The twin-seater Technology Demonstrator-3 took off at 3.20 p.m. from the helipad of the Helicopter Division of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd and flew for 20 minutes.

TD-1 was first flown on March 29, 2010 followed by TD-2 on June 28, 2011 – both costing around Rs 376 crore. A few months back, the HAL board sanctioned TD-3 and TD-4 at a cost of Rs. 200 crore to speed up tests on its various systems, Dr. Tyagi said.

He said TD-4, meant for full weapon and avionics tests, would be readied in about three months.
