The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will offer to contribute military assets in the global fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

The SAF will join 33 other Western, Arab and Asian countries in the US-led coalition in the fight against the armed terror group that had, in recent months, conducted violent campaigns in Iraq and Syria, brutally murdering innocent Muslim and non-Muslim civilians.

The SAF's deployment will include liaison and planning officers, a KC-135R air-to-air refuelling aircraft, and an imagery analysis team.Dr Ng stressed that no combat troops will be deployed within Syria and Iraq. Instead, they will operate from surrounding countries, together with the other coalition forces. To mitigate the risk inherent in such missions, they will receive additional training in weapon handling and dealing with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), as well as reacting to hostile elements.
