The Russian Air Force carried out a ferocious series of airstrikes over the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) positions in the Homs Governorate’s eastern countryside on Friday, hitting several targets near the strategic cities of Palmyra (Tadmur) and Al-Sakhanah. Among the Russian Air Force’s targets on Monday were the oil transport routes used by ISIS in the Palmyra countryside; these roads flow through the Al-Raqqa and Aleppo governorates before reaching the Turkish border. According to a senior officer from the Syrian Air Defense, the Russian Air Force specifically struck ISIS’ positions at the villages of Rasm Al-‘Arnab and Wadi Al-Abyad, destroying several oil supply trucks and a command-and-control center.
