The municipality of Ghamid Al-Zenad, a farming town in Baha, has employed 12 Saudis to work as cleaners..

Thamir Al-Malki, head of the municipality, told Arab News that the Saudis were appointed after passing tests held by an employment committee at the municipality.
He said there were over 150 candidates mostly holding college degrees or diplomas.

“It was not possible to hire college graduates or postsecondary diploma holders because the law forbids it. Those accepted had secondary school certificates or less,” he said.

Al-Malki said that he was impressed by the determination of the successful candidates to get the jobs.

“Their determination was not out of need, but rather out of a feeling of responsibility and to have income from a secure government job,” he said.

Al-Malki said it was not the first time Saudis have been hired as cleaners because other municipalities have already done so. The attention of the media was more intense with regard to these workers. They would receive SR3,000 a month, he said.
