Photos - Chinese social media - We Chat group
A meeting to honor navy aviation officer Dai Mingmeng as a "Heroic Test Pilot," for his outstanding performances as a carrier-based aircraft test pilot was held by the Central Military Commission (CMC) on Monday.Dai was among the first batch of test pilots for China's carrier-based aircraft. He took the lead in dangerous test flight programs and was the first to manage a ski-jump takeoff and landing with the help of arresting wires, expanding the country's fixed-wing aircraft from land-based to carrier-based operations.
Ski-jump refers to aircraft running along a ramp that is curved upwards for takeoff.Navy commander Wu Shengli, who is also a CMC member, awarded Dai the medal and certificate under a commendation order signed by Chinese President and CMC Chairman Xi Jinping.

F-35B To Fly At Christening Of Brits’ Newest Aircraft Carrier, If Weather OK
Photos : Min of Defence
Do not expect any official confirmation, but the British will allow Lockheed Martin’s F-35B to make its first flight outside of the United States on July 4 when the country’s newest aircraft carrier is christened by Her Majesty the Queen.
Apparently eager not to disappoint Queen Elizabeth, should the plane not be able to fly in the Scottish weather, and desirous of keeping the media’s focus on the majestic carrier upon which she will be cracking a bottle of Champagne open, the powers that be have decided not to confirm or deny that the aircraft will be on hand. (Could the Queen Elizabeth be christened with a good single malt Scotch, given the locale? Also, the Royal Navy no longer calls them christenings; it’s officially a naming ceremony.`

The People's Liberation Army has successfully sunk a US aircraft carrier, according to a satellite photo provided by Google Earth, reports our sister paper Want Daily — though the strike was a war game, the carrier a mock-up platform and the "sinking" occurred on dry land in a remote part of western China.
A satellite image reveals two large craters on a 200-meter-long white platform in the Gobi desert used to simulate the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. The photo was first posted on SAORBATS, an internet forum based in Argentina. Military analysts believed the craters would have been created by China's DF-21D anti-ship missile, dubbed the "carrier killer."
While claiming that the missile has the capability to hit aircraft carriers 2,000 kilometers away, the nationalistic Chinese tabloid Global Times stated that the weapon was only designed for self-defense; the DF-21D will never pose a serious threat to US national security because it is not even able to reach Hawaii, the newspaper said, though fully aware of the US naval deployment in the Western Pacific.
Underlining this point, Global Times took a common line from China's national defense doctrine before the country acquired an aircraft carrier of its own — namely that carriers are an offensive weapon while anti-ship missiles are defensive. "It can be used like a stick to hit the dog intruding on our backyard, but it can never be used to attack the house where the dog comes from," the paper's commentary said.

Ski Jump for the Mig-29 K aircrafts clearly visible below.
India will launch its first Shore-Based Test Facility (SBTF) at Naval Air Station INS Hansa in Goa for training naval fighter pilots operating from aircraft carriers.MiG-29K pilots are currently using this facility for training, before they commence operations on INS Vikramaditya in Karwar.

Marine Nationale (French Navy) and US Navy joint Aircraft Carriers deployment
Pictures of USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group combined operations with the French navy's Task Force 473 (with the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier) in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
The French Navy likely named the Operation “Bois Belleau” (Belleau Wood, a famous WWI battle that took place in France and involved the US Army and US Marine Corps) because some major joint Marine Nationale (French Navy) – U.S. Navy maneuvers and exercises are planned. According to the French Navy, operation Bois Belleau will enable the French and US navies to reach the highest level of cooperation to date. The U.S. Carrier Battle Group formed around the Nimitz class Aircraft Carrier USS Harry S. Truman, will be present in the Arabian Sea and the Persian Gulf at the same time. There will be a joint deployment and close cooperation for five weeks between the two CVBGs. France and the United States are leading strategic partners and the only nations to deploy nuclear-powered aircraft carriers capable of projecting massive fire-power.
The presence of the Charles de Gaulle will also be an opportunity for the French Navy to conduct high-level cooperation with partner countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

As INS Vikramaditya reaches INS Kadamba, pilots plan to move from MiG-29 Simulator Facility to actual landings and takeoff from INS Vikramaditya
India's newest and biggest ever warship, the INS Vikramaditya, arrived at its home port of Karwar in Karnataka after an uninterrupted six-week sail from northern Russia. The 44,500-ton aircraft carrier, which has been under a nine year refit in Russia, docked at the naval base on Tuesday evening. The aircraft carrier, which undertook the long sail home without any armament or combat aircraft on board, will over the next few months get integrated with the Western Naval Command.
At its home port of Karwar, celebrations have been planned for the arrival of the warship, with the families of over 1600 sailors on board waiting to meet their loved ones after several months. The crew of the warship had gone to the Russian town of Severodvinsk last year for training. With the ship now at its home base, preparations have been made to ensure that it is operationalised at the earliest. The ship currently does not have its main armament — the MiG 29 K fighters — and merely has a small chopper complement on board for utility missions. The plan now is to start with the first landings and takeoffs of the fighters on board Vikramaditya within a few weeks.
While Russian aviators have landed and taken off from the carrier during trials in Russia, no Indian pilot has been qualified yet for deck operations. At present, Indian pilots are being trained on simulators to operate from the confines of the small flight deck. A shore-based training facility in Goa, where the MiG 29 K fighter squadrons will be based, is also set to start training pilots on landing and taking off from the carrier. The facility is a replica of the Vikramaditya flight deck — for both taking off from a ski jump and landing with arrestor wires. The certification of both pilots and air controllers has to be completed before the ship can formally join the fleet. A team of around 83 Russian personnel, who sailed with the ship, will remain in Karwar over the next year as part of the one year guarantee of the Sevmash shipyard.
