Hoping to drive down costs India offers US a follow-on order for 39 more AH-64D Apache helicopters

In addition to AH-64D Apaches, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy need 15 Chinook helicopters and four more P-8I anti-submarine warfare aircraft respectively.

All aircraft are manufactured by US manufacturer Boeing.


India has offered to significantly increase an order for U.S. attack helicopters, Indian officials said, as U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel began a visit to New Delhi .

Withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, Iraq's descent in chaos, jointly developing and producing military hardware, exploring convergence of interests and strategic ties of India and America are high on the agenda of US Secretary of Defense.The US Secretary of Defence is also scheduled to meet Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, who is also the Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee (CoSC), a panel comprising the chiefs of the Army, Navy and the Air Force.
