French Air Force Mirage jet crashes

Fortunately no one was hurt when a Mirage 2000 jet belonging to the French Air Force crashed in a field in northeastern France Monday. The pilot apparently managed to parachute to safety.

It is still not clear what caused the fighter jet to crash near the small village of Baroches (Meurthe-et-Moselle). It happened at around 4:30 p.m. local time in a field close to some houses outside the small village and fortunately no one was killed in the incident. When the plane got into trouble, the pilot ejected and parachuted safety to the ground, as the jet he was piloting then crashed to the ground.
A search and rescue mission was started and the pilot was found safe and sound at around 6 p.m. and then transported to a hospital in Metz.
