The police found that Shakeel Ahmed, a Bangladeshi national, infiltrated to India in 2007 and obtained citizenship while staying in Karimpur of Nadia. After marrying Razia Biwi, he ran a shop to make burqas in Beldanga of Murshidabad three years ago.

Twenty-five hand grenades, some 10 ready-for-use improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and large quantities of ammonium nitrate, iron oxide, hydrogen peroxide and other chemicals used in making bombs were recovered from the spot. Police sources said 55 IEDs were also  seized along with RDX, several wrist watch dials, maps, SIM cards and some half-burnt books were in Arabic. Security agencies believe that since the militants were already assembling IEDs, they planned to hit an Indian city in a few days.

Widows of bomb makers made attempt to destroy evidence instead of allowing officials to save their husbands thru medical aid.

Local residents told the police that when they rushed to the two-storeyed house of Hasan Choudhury at Khagragarh after hearing the deafening sound of explosion and finding smoke on October 2 afternoon, they saw the two women hurriedly cleaning the blood stains and burning documents instead of helping the wounded male members lying in unconscious state.

They added that the women threatened to kill them with bombs and open fire if they entered the house. The fire brigade personnel received similar treatment. Preliminary investigations suggest that the blast occurred due to the mismatch of chemicals by the suspected militants assembling improvised explosive devices.

House owner Hasan Choudhury  who was detained told the police that he rented his house to Shakeel and five others without checking their background three months ago for setting up an unit to make burqas.
