The first of a new class of U.S. Navy Destroyers is nearing completion at the General Dynamics Bath iron Works at Bath, Maine.
"Zumwalt-class” ships are about 100 feet longer than the U.S. Navy's current destroyers and operate on an electrical propulsion system powered by jet fuels unlike the diesel powered engines which the current destroyers use. This new class of ships will have fewer crew members due to the automation on the ship and will play a major role in the US strategy of Asia pivot this century.
