A suicide car bomber has killed 3 people near the Iranian ambassador's residence in Yemen.Qatar-based Al Jazeera television and other media say the blast in the capital Sanaa on Wednesday damaged the ambassador's residence and nearby buildings.
The ambassador was away at the time, but the blast killed a security guard, his son and another person.Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the Yemen-based affiliate of the terrorist network, has claimed responsibility for the attack on Twitter. The group is believed to have targeted the home of the Iranian envoy because of Iran's close ties with the Yemeni Shia Muslim Houthi rebels.
The Houthi took control of Sanaa in September this year, and joined Yemen's new cabinet last month.
