On March 4, 2011, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) signed a contract valued at $58.5 million to build off-shore patrol vessel (OPV) for Mauritius Coast Guard within 42 months of contract signing.The keel of an Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) ordered by Mauritius was laid on April 23, 2012.
The 1350 ton OPV is 74.10 mtr long has a top speed of 20 knots and a maximum range of 5000 nautical miles.The OPV will be used by Mauritius Coast Guard to police Mauritian waters against piracy, smuggling, illegal fishing and drug trafficking. It will also provide logistical support, including search and rescue operations.
