Operation Slipper’s fifteenth and final Heron Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) detachment flew its last mission from Afghanistan’s Kandahar Airfield on 30 Nov 14. Since August 2009 Heron flights have completed over 27,000 mission hours providing high resolution intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support to Australian and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) partners in southern Afghanistan. The final flight was followed by an awards ceremony and social event attended by the Commander Joint Task Force 636, Major General David Mulhall, AM, CSC, hosted by the Commanding Officer Heron detachment, Wing Commander Phillip Parsons.
