Reports coming in from Deir Ez-Zor in Syria indicate that the ISIS offensive on Deir Ez-Zor airport have failed.
As long as the Syrian Army maintains control over the airport, they retain the ability of force projection against ISIS within the city and the surrounding area. It is from here that the Syrian Army mounts offensives against rebel positions in Eastern Syria.
The Deir Ezzor Airport is the most strategically important location in the Deir Ezzor Province, and whoever controls the airport controls the city, and with it, the east-west gateway in Syria.
